Similar Sweater Books can make us laugh and make us cry. They can teach us things about ourselves and the world around us. Some books are written to inspire and that’s what I’m talking about today. Books that can inspire us to live our best lives, to believe in ourselves. Books that can fill us with the confidence we need to go after our dreams. I love reading inspirational books for one simple reason, they make me feel good. These are a few books I’ve been reading and listening to lately. They not only inspire, but they are quite funny and entertaining too. Inspiration If you haven’t heard of Rachel Hollis by now, then… girl, where have you been? She runs the well known blog: thechicsite.com, the podcast Rise Together and is a business coach, personal coach and inspirational speaker. She basically does it all. She’s also very down to earth and funny. I just finished reading her first book Girl, Wash Your Face and LOVED it. The book is all about the lies we tell ourselves and the lies that we’ve grown up believing. Things like: I will never get past this, I’m not a good Mom, and I’m bad at sex. It’s chock full of funny stories about herself, why she believed these lies and how she got over them. If you haven’t read it, go out and get it right now. There’s a workbook too, but I haven’t used it. This is Rachel’s second book and the reviews are just as good as the first one. I already bought it for myself and am about to read it. Girl Stop Apologizing is about the excuses we make (“I don’t have time”) for not going after our goals, behaviors to adopt instead (“choose 1 goal and go all in”) and skills to acquire (“Planning”) to help us achieve what we’re after. Can’t wait to start reading this one. I just finished listening to You Are A Badass on audio and it was so much fun. Her main message is that you can create whatever life you want. If you’re not happy with the life you’ve got, it’s your own damn fault, so change it. She’s very funny and relatable. Every time I listen to a chapter, I walk away feeling like I can conquer the world. She also has some follow up books: Your Are A Badass Every Day and You Are A Badass At Making Money. I haven’t read these, but they have good reviews. I’ll definitely check these out. Autobiography If you’re not already familiar with Becoming, it’s an autobiography about Michelle Obama’s life from childhood until present day. She is such a well-liked, inspirational woman that I just wanted to learn more about her. This book did not disappoint. I found it to be a really interesting read. The Gifts Of Imperfection is on my list of books I want to read. Forbes named it one of the “Five Books That Will Actually Change Your Outlook On Life.” She uses story telling… ” with original research and plenty of encouragement, she explores the psychology of releasing our definitions of an ‘imperfect’ life and embracing living authentically. “ Parenting Teens If you need more help conquering your teen than conquering the world, here are some books I’d suggest. They’ll help you to understand your teen better and help raise your spirits. Brainstorm really helps to better understand why teens act the way they do and to look at it differently. He explains how a lot of their annoying behavior is part of the brain’s developmental process. This development will eventually lead them to venture out into the world as mature adults. The book gives lots of helpful advice for how to relate to your teen differently. It also suggests how to channel their developmental changes in productive ways. A friend recommended the NY Times best seller, Untangled and I just bought it. “In this sane, highly engaging, and informed guide for parents of daughters, Dr. Damour draws on decades of experience and the latest research to reveal the seven distinct – and absolutely normal – developmental transitions that turn girls into grown-ups. She answers questions like these. How to handle your daughter’s eye rolling when you talk to her. Should you tell her you’re checking her phone? How to help with test anxiety? Where’s the line between healthy eating and having an eating disorder? Check Them Out I hope you check out some of these books. I’ve really enjoyed them and have found them to be helpful and uplifting… And who doesn’t need a little of that?
