Happy Friday everyone. I have been checking things off my To Do list left and right since the kids went back to school and it feels great. I did my own “Brain Dump” when I wrote the post last week and scheduled out a lot of tasks for this week and next. Summer is always so hectic and tasks pile up. One of the things I really like to do in Sept is get my life back in order. Reboot Your Life To that end, I’m planning a short series called: “Reboot Your Life.” I’ll talk about a few different areas of your life that you can overhaul. The goal is to organize enough so that you can spend some time doing the things that really matter to you. I came across a great article called “5 Ways To Reset For Fall” on a similar theme on the blog Making Life Marvelous. Ashley’s got some good ideas so I hope you’ll check it out. NSale Is Back (Just About) Guys, if you missed out on items that sold out quick at the NSale, they’re re-stocked. Most are on sale again for the Labor Day Weekend. Some are even more marked down than before. They have new things too. Check them out HERE. This Rails jacket is something that I really liked, but it sold out right away. It’s back now though and I’m psyched. How gorgeous are these block heels? Didn’t see these the first time around. Fashom Remember the long green dress from this post? As much as I loved it, that dress was just too long for me so the Fashom team sent this dress instead. I think it’s really cute. In fact I wore it the other day to Paul’s wine tasting picnic and it was a big hit. The front does gape a little when I sit (maybe if I were bustier this wouldn’t be a problem), but it was easily fixed with Flash Tape. See below. For more info on Fashom, see this post. Amazon Favorites: Double Sided Clothing Tape I don’t often say go out and buy this right now… but go out and buy this right now. Double sided clothing tape is the best invention ever. I used it to keep my wrap dress wrapped, but it has lots of other uses too. To prevent a peep hole on your button down shirt, to keep straps on your dress stuck to your bra straps so they don’t peek out. If you have a hem that’s coming out and don’t have time to sew it, this will hold it together until you can fix it. Cuffs are flopping around? This will hold them together. If your belt is too long, it will hold down the end. Even a plunging neckline that opens when you bend or wants to slide down too low, can be held in place. The uses are endless. Amazon Favorites: Terry Dress How cute is this light weight terry sweatshirt dress from Daily Ritual? It’s incredibly soft and perfect for this time of year. I ordered it when I was down at the beach and it was perfect for cooler evenings. Now that it’s fall, I like it for when I’m running errands during the day. It’s really comfortable and casual. Fits TTS. I’m wearing a small and it’s a little more fitted on me than in the Amazon listing, but in a good way, ha. One Decidedly NOT Favorite I typically live in a pretty happy bubble of not getting effected by other people’s opinions or things I’m exposed to that aren’t helpful to my life. I block out the negative or maybe I just let it go quickly, I don’t know. But today was different. I picked up a magazine titled “Health & Radiant Aging” and there were 6 women on the cover arm and arm. Not a single one of them looked to be over the age of 40 and it’s a magazine dedicated to aging healthily. I thought, “Really? Surely you can find someone out there over 40 who looks healthy and radiant to include on your cover.” I’ve read about the issue of women becoming “irrelevant” or “invisible” after about 40, but never really felt it until today. So thanks for that “Health & Radiant Ageing” magazine. I think you can do better. Intermittent Fasting For you guys who are into intermittent fasting, this video has some interesting things to think about. He talk about how you may want to fast a little differently if you’re over 40. Books I just finished Maisie Dobbs and really enjoyed it. Think… Downton Abby meets Nancy Drew. I didn’t realize it at the time, but it’s a series. This is the first book and a lot of it is about Maisie. How she became a detective, but she also solves a case. I listened to “Even Tree Nymphs Get The Blues” which was free on audible. I wasn’t impressed though. It’s a love story really, between a tree nymph and a human and all the misunderstandings that exist between the two species. I didn’t hate it, but it didn’t exactly captivate either. Books For Parents of Teen Girls I really want to read “Under Pressure” by Lisa Damour, author of “Untangled.” If you haven’t read “Untangled,” I highly recommend it. It’s about the different stages that teen girls go through as they mature into adults. “Under Pressure” is specifically about the skyrocketing increase in anxiety and stress particularly in teen girls. One of the things she talks about is the reality that feelings of stress and anxiety are actually a normal part of growing up. Learning how to re-frame and understand those feelings can make all the difference in whether girls handle it in a healthy manor or it gets out of control and overwhelms them. Can I tell you guys who’s kids are just heading into the teen years? Even if your daughter is happy and healthy (Lauren is, she’s doing great actually), I guarantee she knows a whole handful of girls with diagnosed anxiety or depression disorders (or she will by the time she’s in high school). There’s not a teen out there who’s not touched by this and I think re-framing stress and anxiety for our kids can be really helpful to ALL of them. Just my two cents. Hope you all have a great weekend.
